Victorville church recently welcomed Pastor JJ Martinez Jr. as their new lead pastor. A California native, Martinez grew up attending La Sierra Academy and Rio Lindo Academy before beginning his journey into ministry. Outside of his pastoral work, he enjoys building LEGO sets as a stress reliever and exploring different cuisines, with Italian, Mexican, and Indian food among his favorites.
Since arriving at Victorville church, Martinez has been struck by the warmth and sense of community among its members. Through trust and partnership with the congregation, Martinez shared, “We can work together toward the church’s mission and vision of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ."
Before stepping into pastoral ministry, Martinez initially envisioned a career in healthcare.
"Initially, my plans were to serve people through the healthcare system," he shared. "I attended Union College [now Union Adventist University] and was in the nursing program. But while I was going through the program, I kept feeling God call me into pastoral ministry. After a while, I gave up running away from it and accepted that call. I felt so at peace and knew that God was leading, and I haven’t regretted that decision."
After completing his Master of Divinity at Andrews University, Martinez returned to the Rocky Mountain Conference, where he served multiple congregations, including the Lamar, Arkansas Valley, Pueblo, and Grand Junction churches.
For Martinez, ministry is about walking alongside people in their faith journey. “Many aspects of my ministry give me life and renew me,” he shared. “But the one that sticks out is seeing someone give their life to Jesus. Standing with someone in the baptismal waters is such a joy and honor. I love it when one person comes home to Jesus.”
As he settles into his first year at Victorville church, Martinez is focused on building relationships and supporting the church’s mission. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue strengthening connections within the congregation, mentoring those seeking to grow deeper in their faith, and celebrating moments of spiritual commitment, such as baptism and discipleship. “I want our church family to know that I am there for them through all that life has given.”
With a heart for discipleship and a passion for seeing lives transformed, Martinez looks forward to the journey ahead—one step at a time, walking in faith together.

Victorville da la bienvenida a su nuevo pastor
La iglesia de Victorville recientemente dio la bienvenida al pastor JJ Martínez Jr. como su nuevo pastor. Nativo de California, Martínez creció asistiendo a La Sierra Academy y a Río Lindo Academy antes de comenzar su recorrido al ministerio. Aparte de su trabajo pastoral, le gusta construir sets de LEGO para el estrés y explorar diferentes cocinas, con comida italiana, mexicana e india entre sus favoritas.
Desde que llegó a la iglesia de Victorville, Martínez ha quedado impresionado por la calidez y el sentido de comunidad entre sus miembros. A través de la confianza y la asociación con la congregación, Martínez compartió: «Podemos trabajar juntos hacia la misión y la visión de la iglesia de difundir el evangelio de Jesucristo».
Antes de entrar en el ministerio, Martínez inicialmente tenía en mente una carrera en el área de la salud. «Inicialmente, mis planes eran atender a las personas a través del sistema de salud», compartió. «Asistí a Union College [ahora Union Adventist University] y estaba en el programa de enfermería. Pero mientras pasaba por el programa, seguía sintiendo que Dios me llamaba al ministerio. Después de un tiempo, dejé de huir de él y acepté ese llamado. Me sentí en paz y supe que Dios me estaba guiando, y no me he arrepentido de esa decisión».
Después de completar su Maestría en Divinidad en Andrews University, Martínez regresó a la Rocky Mountain Conference, donde sirvió a múltiples congregaciones, incluidas las iglesias de Lamar, Arkansas Valley, Pueblo y Grand Junction.
Para Martínez, el ministerio tiene que ver con caminar junto a las personas en su recorrido de fe. «Muchos aspectos de mi ministerio me dan vida y me renuevan», compartió. «Pero lo que sobresale es ver a alguien dar su vida a Jesús. Estar con alguien en las aguas bautismales es un gran gozo y un honor. Me encanta cuando una persona se encuentra en casa con Jesús».
A medida que se instala en su primer año en la iglesia de Victorville, Martínez se enfoca en establecer relaciones y apoyar la misión de la iglesia. De cara al futuro, espera seguir fortaleciendo las conexiones dentro de la congregación, orientando a aquellos que buscan profundizar en su fe y celebrando momentos de compromiso espiritual, como el bautismo y el discipulado. «Quiero que nuestra familia de iglesia sepa que estoy ahí para ellos a través de todo lo que la vida da».
Con un corazón para el discipulado y una pasión por ver vidas transformadas, Martínez espera con ansias el peregrinaje que tenemos por delante, un paso a la vez, caminando juntos en la fe.
