From Dec. 5-7, 2025, the Loma Linda University church Anthem, UReach, and Student for International Missions (SIMS) teams partnered together to serve families through a multi-day outreach mission. Traveling together as one unified group, the teams traveled by vehicle into Mexico, strengthening both teamwork and shared purpose along the journey. Overseen by Linda Mendez, pastor for UReach, and Kane Kim, Anthem Hospitality and Community Engagement director, the initiative brought together 25-30 volunteers, including nursing, dental, and medical students.
A central focus of the outreach was a visit to a domestic women’s shelter, where many mothers and children had sought refuge from abusive situations. Through a Giving Tree initiative, the team collected Christmas wish lists and distributed gifts to 17 children, along with care items for 15 mothers and appreciation gifts for 10 shelter employees. To further support the mothers, volunteers created a dedicated self-care space where women received nail services, massages, and makeup while engaging in open, healing conversations with Mendez. The room became a safe space for reflection, encouragement, and restoration. One volunteer captured the emotional weight of the experience, sharing, “Can we stay here and not go back home?”
The outreach extended beyond the shelter as volunteers assisted local community churches and continued their journey together into a refugee camp in Mexico. There, the team delivered food, gifts, and board games to families living in extreme conditions, including a village where multiple individuals shared a single shack. Volunteers spent time listening, playing games, and building relationships, offering not just resources but genuine connections.
Through every interaction, the Anthem, UReach, and SIMS outreach teams reflected a commitment to meeting people where they are and reminding them that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

LLUC Outreach aporta esperanza a familias necesitadas
Del 5 al 7 de diciembre de 2025, los equipos Anthem de la Iglesia de Loma Linda University, UReach y Students for International Mission Service (SIMS) unieron esfuerzos para servir a familias necesitadas mediante una misión de alcance de varios días. Viajando juntos como un solo equipo, se trasladaron por carretera hasta México, fortaleciendo el compañerismo y el sentido de propósito compartido a lo largo del trayecto. La iniciativa, supervisada por Linda Méndez, pastora de UReach, y Kane Kim, director de Hospitalidad y Participación Comunitaria de Anthem, reunió a 25 a 30 voluntarios, entre ellos estudiantes de enfermería, odontología y medicina.
Uno de los ejes principales del proyecto fue la visita a un refugio para mujeres, donde muchas madres y niños habían buscado protección frente a situaciones de abuso. A través de la iniciativa del Árbol de Donación, el equipo recopiló listas de deseos navideños y entregó regalos a 17 niños, además de artículos de cuidado personal para 15 madres y obsequios de agradecimiento para 10 miembros del personal del refugio. Con el fin de brindar un apoyo adicional, los voluntarios habilitaron un espacio de autocuidado, donde las mujeres recibieron servicios de manicura, masajes y maquillaje, al tiempo que sostenían conversaciones abiertas y sanadoras con Méndez. La sala se transformó en un entorno seguro de reflexión, ánimo y restauración. Un voluntario expresó el impacto emocional del momento al decir: «¿Podemos quedarnos aquí y no volver a casa?»
La labor de alcance se extendió más allá del refugio. Los voluntarios también colaboraron con iglesias comunitarias locales y continuaron su camino hacia un campamento de refugiados en México. Allí distribuyeron alimentos, regalos y juegos de mesa a familias que vivían en condiciones extremas, incluso en comunidades donde varias personas compartían una sola vivienda. Además de ofrecer recursos materiales, los voluntarios dedicaron tiempo a escuchar, jugar y construir relaciones, brindando una presencia cercana y solidaria.
En cada encuentro, los equipos de Anthem, UReach y SIMS reflejaron su compromiso de acercarse a las personas allí donde se encuentran y recordarles que son vistas, valoradas y profundamente amadas.
