The Templeton Hills church partnered with Adventist Health to host a community wellness clinic in October at the church. The two-day event provided free services for local residents, including fresh produce and dental, vision, and mental health care.
“In just the first day, we gave out 53,000 pounds of produce. People were lined up around the block. Clearly this was a huge need!” said Zac Page, Templeton Hills pastor. “It was so fun to see our church members and guests, who had just planned on coming to church, jumping in to help with the distribution when they saw how much help was needed. Everyone had so much fun sharing food, knowing that they were meeting such big needs. It was a high Sabbath for sure.”
The clinic was coordinated by Page in partnership with Nicholas Lozito, Mission and Spiritual Care leader for the two Adventist Health hospitals in San Luis Obispo (Adventist Health Sierra Vista and Adventist Health Twin Cities), and Adventist Health Director for Global Mission John Schroer.
More than 100 volunteers, including church members, hospital staff, and healthcare providers from Adventist Health and the community, served over 1,000 community members. Community partners and sponsors donated vision and dental care services, fresh produce, and snacks and lunches for participants.
What makes a successful clinic?
“Success in a community medical outreach clinic like this one includes many elements—some more measurable than others,” said Schroer. “In general, we are working to provide quality care, build strategic partnerships, and cultivate sustained community engagement.”
The outreach clinic in Templeton reflects the commitment of Adventist Health to improve access to care and to support the well-being of uninsured and underinsured individuals in the communities Adventist Health serves. Page said he appreciates the opportunity for members of his church and Adventist Health employees to get to know one another better.
“As a pastor, I love to see the way these clinics involve a large portion of our church. I also love to see how much fun the volunteers have in serving. It is obvious to me that we receive the biggest blessing out of the deal,” said Page.
It takes four to six months to plan each outreach clinic, including arranging for providers who can commit their time, managing logistics, engaging the community, and building the volunteer team.
“There is tremendous need in the communities we serve and so much willingness in our church communities to help. We would like to include more Adventist Health communities in this type of outreach,” said Schroer. “Our goal in 2026 is to offer four outreach clinics throughout the Adventist Health system.”
Page’s church members can’t wait to host another clinic. “We received so much positive feedback from hospital employees, church members, and from the community we were privileged to serve,” he said. “We hope to learn and grow and make next year’s clinic even better.”
On Sabbath, while the clinic was underway inside the Templeton Hills church, a worship service was held outside for anyone who wanted to participate. “In that moment, God helped me realize that this is what church is all about,” said Page. “After all, Jesus said, ‘They will know you are my disciples by your love.’”

Clínica de gratuita bienestar atiende a la comunidad de la Costa Central

«En solo el primer día, repartimos 53.000 libras de productos. La gente hacía cola alrededor de la manzana. ¡Claramente era una gran necesidad!» dijo Zac Page, pastor de Templeton Hills. «Fue muy divertido ver a los miembros de nuestra iglesia e invitados, que acababan de venir a la iglesia, intervenir para ayudar con la distribución cuando vieron cuánta ayuda se necesitaba. Todos se lo pasaron genial compartiendo comida, sabiendo que estaban cubriendo necesidades tan grandes. Fue un gran sábado, sin duda».

«Hay una enorme necesidad en las comunidades a las que servimos y mucha disposición en nuestras comunidades de iglesia para ayudar. Nos gustaría incluir a más comunidades de Adventist Health en este tipo de actividades de divulgación», dijo Schroer. «Nuestro objetivo para 2026 es ofrecer cuatro clínicas en todo el sistema de Adventist Health».
