Presidents Day 2021

Presidents Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents Day after the date was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and other figures, Presidents Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

It is certainly a good day to pray for our leaders and remember the history of Presidents Day.

Comfort for the Day: New Video from Church Support Services

As the death toll from the coronavirus in the U.S. surpasses 465,000, the collective grief of our nation is off the charts. As we hear of more and more friends, church members, and family members who are sick and dying, how do we comfort them? How do we know what to do for the best?

Out of their own loss, Steve and Karen Nicola have forged a ministry for bereavement. The Church Support Services department of the Pacific Union Conference recently released the video “Comfort for the Day” as a resource for you and for your local church. View links to the video is below, along with other resources on grief recovery.

May we listen to each other and hear each other with open hearts—hearts softened by the word of Christ.

“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
– Romans 10:17

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”
