Summer Gatherings Keep the Family Growing

There is something familiar about summer in the Northern California Conference (NCC). For generations, it has meant old friends, shared meals, worship, and time set aside to reconnect as a church family. This summer, three gatherings carried those traditions forward while creating space for new friendships, new generations, and deeper faith.

Redwood Camp Meeting: Along the Eel River, Redwood celebrated 50 years at its current location. Campers from across the conference and other states settled beneath the redwoods for morning meetings, children’s programs, afternoons along the river, and evening worship. Speakers included NCC President Marc Woodson, Jim Lorenz, Sam Leonor, Gary Venden, Mark Haddad, and others, with Jose Antonio Batiste among the presenters in the Hispanic Amphitheater.

West Coast Korean Camp Meeting: Held at Pacific Union College, more than 1,300 attended, including more than 800 young people and English Ministry adults. Children’s programs, youth activities, and Korean- and English-language meetings reflected a community honoring its heritage while preparing for its future. Growing participation by young families offered an encouraging picture of generations worshiping, learning, and spending time together.

Hispanic Ministry Celebration: At Rio Lindo Adventist Academy, approximately 650 gathered for the annual celebration. Under the theme “Ready for the Harvest,” members worshiped, fellowshipped, and celebrated ministry across Northern California. The weekend concluded at the river, where baptism provided a visible reminder of the mission that brings the community together.

Three gatherings, each with its own language, traditions, and setting, offered a familiar picture: old friends returning, families worshiping together, new generations finding their place, and new believers entering the water. The gatherings end, and everyone heads home. But year after year, God’s people keep coming back—and the family keeps growing.
