Miki Akeo-Nelson Appointed Associate Director of Secondary Education

The Pacific Union Conference Office of Education has appointed Miki Akeo-Nelson to serve as associate director of secondary education, providing direct support to the union’s junior and senior academies. Akeo-Nelson has served as the education superintendent for the Hawaii Conference since 2014. There are some 30 academies in the Pacific Union Conference—more than 25% of the secondary education institutions in the North American Division.

In her new responsibilities, Akeo-Nelson will work closely with superintendents and school leaders to support accreditation processes, curriculum implementation, and professional learning for secondary educators. Her long-standing involvement in Pacific Union and North American Division committees gives her a comprehensive view of how local school needs, union-wide initiatives, and division-level priorities can be coordinated to strengthen Adventist secondary education.

Akeo-Nelson holds degrees in elementary education, educational administration, and business administration, and maintains professional endorsements as an elementary teacher, principal, and superintendent.

Miki and her husband, Pastor Tim Nelson, reside in Kaneohe, Hawaii, where Tim pastors the Kaneohe and Waimanalo churches. Their daughter Madison serves as a kindergarten teacher at Loma Linda Academy, and their younger daughter, Sophia, is completing her first year of college and will enter the criminal justice program at La Sierra University in the fall.

The Pacific Union Conference welcomes Miki Akeo-Nelson to the Office of Education team and looks forward to the thoughtful leadership and deep, system-wide understanding of Adventist education she brings to the secondary program within the Pacific Union.
