This year, Grace Hill at Vallejo Drive church lived out its belief in global evangelism by taking its first global mission trip to the city of Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines.
The team spent one week involved in evangelistic meetings, medical and dental services, a gospel concert, and more. During the two days of medical and dental outreach, volunteers joined from the local community, including a medical team from the Holy Cross Parish in the Philippines and the Santiago medical team from the nearby Adventist hospital. Local dentists from the Tuguegarao dental chapter provided free dental services.
As volunteer Danny Ranchez put it, “My blessing was being able to bless others as well through the power of the Holy Spirit and glorifying God, being able to work in unity to draw people closer to Jesus.”

There was also amazing support from the local area. The city mayor’s office approved a permit for use of the city gym at a fraction of the cost for the nightly evangelistic meetings, and the management of a big shopping mall allowed the use of a large open space inside the mall, normally used for business and advertising meetings. They also provided and set up furniture for the medical and dental services, as well as a stage with audio equipment where church members and volunteer singers performed an inspiring gospel concert, which helped promote the nightly evangelistic meetings.
Among the 30 people baptized was a family with four children. Soon after the baptism, their faith was tested. The family’s eldest daughter, three months from finishing her college education, was told by her grandmother, who is Roman Catholic and living in Southern California, that she was cutting off her support for school because she was baptized into the Adventist church. The family, while heartbroken, didn’t lose faith. They continued to pray for the grandmother. One month later, she reinstated her financial support of the daughter’s college tuition.
“The number one blessing for me,” shared Jonathan Henderson, Grace Hill at Vallejo Drive church senior pastor, “was seeing people understanding the gospel for the first time. That ‘light bulb’ moment where they see God and fall in love with His character. It was truly special to see on this trip.”
The ministry of Grace Hill at Vallejo Drive church doesn’t end with this mission trip. Matthew 28:19 (NIV) says to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Discipleship goes far beyond baptism. Future plans include hiring a layman to continue nurturing the new converts and building a new church. At the current church in Tuguegarao, the roof leaks whenever it rains and there is no space for people to park their private vehicles. Supporting ministry in a city with more than 170,000 people and five universities and colleges is what the Tuguegarao mission is all about.

Grace Hill en la iglesia Vallejo Drive realiza su primer viaje misionero global a Filipinas
Este año, Grace Hill, en la iglesia de Vallejo Drive vivió su creencia en la evangelización global realizando su primer viaje misionero a la ciudad de Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Filipinas.
El equipo pasó una semana participando en reuniones evangelísticas, servicios médicos y dentales, un concierto gospel y más. Durante los dos días de divulgación médica y dental, se unieron voluntarios de la comunidad, incluyendo un equipo médico de la parroquia de Holy Cross en Filipinas y el equipo médico de Santiago, el hospital adventista. Dentistas del capítulo dental de Tuguegarao ofrecieron servicios dentales gratuitos.
Como dijo el voluntario Danny Ranchez: “Mi bendición fue poder bendecir también a otros a través del poder del Espíritu Santo y glorificar a Dios, poder trabajar en unidad para acercar a las personas a Jesús.”

También hubo un apoyo increíble de la zona. La oficina del alcalde aprobó un permiso para el uso del gimnasio municipal a una fracción del costo de las reuniones evangelísticas nocturnas, y la gestión de un gran centro comercial permitió el uso de un gran espacio abierto dentro del centro, normalmente utilizado para reuniones de negocios y publicidad. También proporcionaron e instalaron mobiliario para los servicios médicos y dentales, así como un escenario con equipo de audio donde miembros de iglesia y cantantes voluntarios ofrecieron un inspirador concierto góspel, que ayudó a promover las reuniones evangelísticas nocturnas.
Entre las 30 personas bautizadas había una familia con cuatro hijos. Poco después del bautismo, su fe fue puesta a prueba. La hija mayor de la familia, a tres meses de terminar sus estudios universitarios, fue informada por su abuela, que es católica y vive en el sur de California, que estaba cortando su apoyo para la escuela porque había sido bautizada en la iglesia adventista. La familia, aunque con el corazón quebrantado, no perdió su fe. Siguieron orando por la abuela. Un mes después, restableció su apoyo económico para la matrícula universitaria de la hija.
“La bendición número uno para mí”, compartió Jonathan Henderson, pastor de la iglesia de Grace Hill en Vallejo Drive, “fue ver a la gente entendiendo el evangelio por primera vez. Ese momento de ‘bombilla’ en el que ven a Dios y se enamoran de su carácter. Fue realmente especial verlo en ese viaje.”
El ministerio de Grace Hill en la iglesia de Vallejo Drive no termina con ese viaje misionero. Mateo 28:19 dice “vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones.” El discipulado va mucho más allá del bautismo. Los planes futuros incluyen contratar a un obrero laico para seguir atendiendo a los nuevos conversos y construir una nueva iglesia. El techo de la iglesia de Tuguegarao gotea cada vez que llueve y no hay espacio para que la gente estacione sus vehículos. Apoyar el ministerio en una ciudad con más de 170.000 habitantes y cinco universidades y colegios es de lo que trata la misión de Tuguegarao.
