Service in San Bernardino County
More than 100 young people gathered on March 21 for Global Youth Day, a North American Division initiative focused on inspiring youth-led service, for a full day of worship, outreach, and fellowship across San Bernardino County.
The event was hosted by Joint AY—a Black Ministries collaborative youth and young adult ministry founded four years ago by Samuel Baker, youth leader at San Bernardino Community church, and Kyle Crawford, youth pastor at Mt. Rubidoux church. “Collaboration will save this generation,” was one of the centering beliefs that helped fuel the day. The day began with church in the park at Veterans Park in Colton, where the youth-led worship service created an open and inviting space for both attendees and community members.
Linda Hernandez, an elder at 16th Street church, talked about “Salty Christianity” in her message that challenged young people to live with purpose and impact. “We were made for more,” Hernandez emphasized, calling attendees to be active expressions of faith in their communities.
Following the service, participants engaged in a hands-on outreach project, assembling 150 sack lunches for the unhoused community throughout San Bernardino County. Each sack included a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, cookies, fruit, and water. Youth volunteers worked side by side, reinforcing the event’s focus on practical service.
“It felt good to do something that actually helps people right here where we live,” said one youth participant. “It made my faith feel real.”

Iglesias unidas para Día Mundial de la Juventud en el condado de San Bernardino
Más de 100 jóvenes se reunieron el 21 de marzo para el Día Mundial de la Juventud, una iniciativa de la División Norteamericana centrada en inspirar el servicio dirigido por jóvenes, para un día completo de culto, alcance y convivencia en todo el condado de San Bernardino.
El evento fue organizado por Joint AY, un ministerio colaborativo de jóvenes de Black Ministries fundado hace cuatro años por Samuel Baker, líder juvenil de la iglesia de San Bernardino, y Kyle Crawford, pastor juvenil en la iglesia Mt. Rubidoux.
“La colaboración salvará a esta generación”, fue una de las creencias centrales que ayudó a alimentar el día. El día comenzó con la iglesia en el Veterans Park en Colton, donde el culto de adoración dirigido por jóvenes creó un espacio abierto y acogedor tanto para los asistentes como para los miembros de la comunidad.
Linda Hernández, anciana de la iglesia de la calle 16, habló en su mensaje sobre el “cristianismo salado” que desafió a los jóvenes a vivir con propósito e impacto. “Estamos hechos para más”, enfatizó Hernandez, llamando a los asistentes a ser expresiones activas de fe en sus comunidades.
Tras el servicio, los asistentes participaron en un proyecto de extensión práctica, reuniendo 150 almuerzos para los indigentes del condado de San Bernardino. Cada bolsa incluía un bocadillo de cacahuatina y mermelada, patatas fritas, galletas, fruta y agua. Los jóvenes trabajaron codo con codo, reforzando el enfoque del evento en el servicio práctico.
“Se sintió bien hacer algo que realmente ayuda a la gente aquí mismo, donde vivimos”, dijo un participante. “Hizo que mi fe se sintiera real.”
